Studios an Integral Part of B-town Music Scene [video]
Bloomington’s vibrant, homegrown music scene thrives in genres that span the spectrum. With such talent and energy, it’s only natural that a recording industry would be a part of the scene. In this short documentary made for Limestone Post, filmmaker TJ Jaeger tours a few of the area’s many studios.
Besides having an internationally renowned record label in Secretly Canadian, Bloomington is home to more than a dozen music-recording studios, with more de facto studios operating “under word-of-mouth.” In this 7-minute documentary, filmmaker (and musician) TJ Jaeger interviews a few of the studio owners, as well as members of the band Hive Mind, to give musicians and fans an inside look at how the studios operate. They also offer advice to musicians on what to consider when shopping for a studio. Hint: It’s about more than who has the best microphones.
